Image of Asia: Resting on the slopes above Sherpa village

In this photo by Tashi Sherpa, a local Nepalese man rests on his way to a nearby village on the slopes overlooking Namche, a village known as the 'capital of the Sherpas' and a popular stop on the way to Everest base camp. The village has a market, several guest houses and cafes and Internet access, and trekkers generally stay in the village for a day to rest and acclimatize to the thin air at the high elevation in the Himalayas. The village is two days trek from the airstrip at the foothill town of Lukla and another three to five days to the base camp. The popular spring climbing season on Everest and other peaks began last month and runs until the end of May. Sponcer page
