Mars One mission: Three Indians advance to next round of one-way trip to Mars

Three Indians have been shortlisted to be the first batch of human beings to go on a one way trip to Mars. Two women and a man have been selected from India in the third round to go to Mars in 2024.


The three Indians along with 97 other selected applicants advance to the next round of the unprecedented future project to send a total of four people on Mars without the possibility of returning to Earth.


There were over two lakh applications sent for them to be considered to become one of the four people to go on the Mars Mission in 2024. Of the 2,02,586 applicants, just 100 applicants were selected to go to the next round of the Mars One Astronaut Selection Process by the Mars One, the no profit organization based in the Netherlands.


The Mars One mission aims to set up a human colony on the red planet with plans on sending about 40 people and starting the future colony for humans on our neighbouring planet. Once the four finalists are selected by the authorities, they will be trained extensively for seven years to survive and go about with the plan on Mars which is the whole idea for the project.


The 100 participants in the first 100 people selected to go to Mars had 100 people with 50 men and 50 women. Of the 100 people, there were 39 people from North America and South America, 31 people from Europe, 16 people from Asia, 7 people from Africa and 7 people from the islands of Oceania.


The Indian applicants who go through to the next round are Taranjeet Bhatia,29, who is studying Doctorate Computer Science at the University of Central Florida, Ritika Singh, 29, who live is Dubai and Shradha Prasad, 19, who lives in Kerala.
