IPL Player Auction 2015: Yuvraj Singh still a ”big fish”, to play for Delhi Daredevils in IPL 8

Yuvraj Singh may not be part of Team India, who are currently defending their title in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, but he still is a big fish in the Indian domestic circuit. A whopping 16 Crore in his pocket by Delhi Daredevils (DD) proves that the southpaw is as sound as a dollar. Yuvraj, who in last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, attained a bid of 14 Crore, was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but Punjab bloke found takers in Delhi Daredevils — yet again, for a record amount in IPL auction history. Yuvraj, after AB de Villers was highest run-getter for RCB in IPL 2014, was surprisingly released by the team for this year’s auction, but despite that, the team management in a surprising turn of events, bid for him. But Yuvraj eventually went into Daredevils’ kitty.

Domestic performance counts

Pertinently before the IPL auction, Yuvraj had a prolific time in Ranji Trophy, where he batsman amassed 671 runs from seven matches, averaging 55.91. Scoring three consecutive centuries, he hauled his way back to the limelight, but failed to make the cut in Team India’s squad for World Cup. With the IPL 2015 starting right after the World Cup, Yuvraj becomes a perfect pick for team — which was bottom placed in IPL 2014— through his experience and unquestionable talent. Daredevils are looking to start things afresh and Yuvraj could be the one to bank on. Also Read: Yuvraj Singh becomes highest paid cricketer in IPL history

Guru Gary

When Team India became champions, Gary Kirsten was the coach and Yuvraj Singh took home the player of the tournament award by scoring 362 runs at an average of 90.50 and picked 15 wickets as well. Yuvraj has always expressed that it was ‘’Guru Gary’s’’ presence in the dressing room that changed the things and played a central role to take India to glory in World Cup 2011. On the other hand, Kirsten too has often praised Yuvraj’s work ethic. With former India coach now a main man in daredevils’ camp, his liking for Yuvraj’s game would have been one of the main reasons why Daredevils’ bet their bottom dollar on the discarded left-hander.

With Daredevils shelling out huge cash on Yuvraj, it is proof that there are plenty out there who still have immense faith in him. It is up to Yuvraj now to stick to his guns.
